Projects, Infrastructure & Energy

Overview

Our energy and infrastructure team is an integrated multi-disciplinary team, comprising of highly experienced partners, specialising in advising clients on a wide range of sectors, such as power (both conventional and renewable generation, transmission, and distribution), energy transition and efficiency, mining, oil and gas, LNG, petrochemical, roads, ports and terminals, and social infrastructure in India and other jurisdictions such as Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Mauritius and Nepal.

The team works closely with our Real Estate Team, our Banking and Finance Team, and our Disputes Resolution – Litigation and Arbitration Team, to provide comprehensive legal services to our clients.

The team comprises counsels with both international experience (having worked in various major international law firms) and a deep understanding of local issues and can address clients’ needs whether they are transactional, regulatory, or dispute based. From leading the initial infrastructure push with LNG terminals and power plants in the early 1990s to the development of a robust legal framework for India’s electricity deregulation and unbundling exercise in the early 2000s to working with the Government of India and Planning Commission on developing PPP-based concessions for roads and ports, advising on Civil Nuclear Power Development in the late 2000s, working on InVit models, and now on green energy policies and developments, Saraf and Partners and its leaders have enviable and unmatched expertise and experience in projects and infrastructure development, including energy.

We advise on all legal aspects that may arise during the lifespan of a project, including advising on bidding for award of projects, greenfield project development issues, on complex project development contracts, land procurement, consenting process, project financing and refinancing, M&A, investments and divestments/exits, and restructuring.
