Amit Gupta is the Tax Partner leading the Tax practice of the firm with more than a decade of experience in the handling various facets of taxation. He has focused experience in providing efficient solutions to clients in the field of taxation and transaction advisory having served several entities (in a cross-section of industries) and their stakeholders on contentious and non-contentious tax issues. He has built his niche in conceptualising and evaluating avant-garde alternatives for undertaking the desired transactions efficiently based on the underlying commercial objectives. He also has significant experience in advising and assisting clients on tax litigation before various fora. He has been advising various coveted clients for promoter centric matters including estate and successions planning.
His focus areas include Transaction tax, Corporate tax, Cross border taxation, Litigation assistance and Private client matters.
Select Experience

Assisted a Listed US Pharma Client in divestment of its Women’s Healthcare business and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) business in India for total consideration of USD 1.2 billion.

Assisted a fast growing rail logistics provider to acquire a listed entity which was one of India’s largest integrated logistic solutions provider through the CIRP process by efficiently structuring the Resolution Plan from a tax, regulatory and financial perspective.

Assisted a HNI client (featured in the Forbes list of Indian Billionaires) and his Indian and foreign Group companies in devising the defence strategy and responding to Income tax notices and queries pursuant to search & seizure carried out by the Income tax department and other coveted Clients in representations before the Income tax Department Investigation wing with respect to Swizz bank account details data leak.

Advised promoters of listed Indian conglomerates and HNIs on personal asset holdings and estate planning matters including setting up and dismantling trust structures, transfer of assets inter-se promoter groups, structuring and representation with respect to foreign asset holdings from an Income tax and Black Money Act perspective.
