Vaibhav Kakkar featured on CNBC TV18 to share his perspective on the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s ruling on the VI AGR Dues case
In a significant development, the Hon’ble Supreme Court has permitted the Central Government to revisit and reassess the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues previously demanded from Vodafone Idea (VI). The Court acknowledged the unique circumstances surrounding the case, particularly the Government’s substantial 49% equity stake in VI and the broader implications for its extensive consumer base. It further observed that any relief concerning the AGR dues falls within the policy-making domain of the Government. Importantly, the Court found no legal impediment preventing the Government from re-evaluating the matter and arriving at an appropriate decision.

He noted that the decision provides the Government with regulatory flexibility to approach the matter from a pragmatic lens, considering VI’s unique circumstances and offering a potential pathway for the debt-ridden telecom operator.
